Ministry of Science and Education (MSE)

The Ministry of Science and Education (MSE) in Croatia carries out administrative and other tasks related to early childhood education, primary and secondary education at home and abroad; develops and implements curricular reform; approves textbooks and introduces regulations and standards as well as other educational work requirements; encourages the development of the school system; works to improve the student standard; carries out inspections; establishes educational institutions and monitors the legal aspects of their activities; provides funding and facilities for educational work; enables children, young adults and adults to acquire technical skills and competences; supports organisations invested in education. The Ministry of Science and Education also carries out administrative and professional tasks related to the implementation of laws and other regulations in the field of education and the development of a professional basis for draft strategies, laws and proposals of other regulations within its jurisdiction. The Ministry prepares and monitors the implementation of the measures and activities of national strategic documents in the field of education and coordinates them with the guidelines of international strategic documents. It participates in the monitoring, improvement and development of the work of the agency responsible for education, the agencies responsible for vocational education and adult education and the agencies responsible for mobility and European Union programmes. Both the Agency, the Education and Teacher Training Agency and the Agency for Vocational Education and Adult Education organise and implement the professional development of educational workers and directors in accordance with the Act on the Education and Teacher Training Agency (Official Gazette, No 85/2006) and the Act on the Agency for Vocational Education and Training and Adult Education Act (Official Gazette, No 24/2010).

Role in the project:

The main role of MSE will consist in policy support for the exploitation and upscaling of the project findings. That means that MSE will be responsible that the proposed policy measures are in accordance with the latest international, EU and national trends, that the HAND: Empowering Teachers policy guidelines will upgrade the national development tasks in the field and that they will be exploited with relevant stakeholders. It will assure the policy feasibility of the project findings.
