The HAND IN HAND: Empowering Teachers programme is currently being implemented in Slovenia by HAND:ET Project Coordinator Educational Research Institute (ERI).
Team of practitioners is exactly halfway through the programme, which involves 97 teachers and 27 school leaders and counsellors from selected schools. You can get to know them in more detail in the video below.
The first impressions of the participants are very positive and highlight the great need for programmes of this kind that put the teacher and his/her well-being at the centre. Participants report the importance of social-emotional competences in dealing with stressful situations in their work and point out as a strength of the programme that it is aimed at personal growth of the teacher and at supporting teachers without direct expectations for classroom work.
One of the trainers said:
“HAND:ET is a unique project that provides professional and personal development for both - teachers and trainers involved in the programme. As a trainer, the project offers me a source of challenge, inspiration and additional skills. On the one hand, it is about developing and following my own practice of mindfulness and diversity awareness. On the other hand, it is about working with teachers who already know the elements of mindfulness. Last but not least, it is also about exploring the content with individuals who are not yet so "familiar" or enthusiastic about it. In this way, the programme allows for a shift in the way these topics are strengthened in our society at different levels.”
HAND:ET ERI team is looking forward to the continuation of the programme, with 5 more sessions to go, 3 of them live.
