HAND:ET Project partner, the Network of Education Policy Centers (NEPC), recently hosted a Learning Event that brought together educators, experts, and facilitators to explore innovative approaches to teacher well-being and professional development.

Learning Event on 'Empowering Teachers to Deal with Career Challenges' took place on January 23rd and 24th, 2024, n Opatija, Croatia. The event was organized by the Network of Education Policy Centers (NEPC) and representatives from University of Graz and Danish Center for Mindfulness at Aarhus University facilitated the event and shared their expertise on socio-emotional competencies, mindfulness, teachers’ well-being and diversity awareness.

The primary goal of the learning event was for the participants to better understand how to empower teachers to navigate career challenges effectively. More specifically to:

  • Understand the concept of teacher's well-being and its relationship with socio-emotional competencies.
  • Recognize the importance of teacher's well-being for the quality of education.
  • Gain an overview of the HAND:ET program and its impact on fostering socio-emotional competencies and diversity awareness among teachers.
  • Reflect and plan how to incorporate strategies for empowering teachers to deal with career challenges into their professional agency.

The learning event incorporated interactive methods, blending elements from the HAND:ET programme: it featured a combination of lectures, exercises, and group reflections, ensuring active participation and engagement.

Finally, the event provided a valuable platform for educators and professionals to enhance their understanding of teacher well-being, socio-emotional competencies, and effective strategies for dealing with career challenges. Participants, experts in the field of continuous professional development of educators, had the opportunity to gain actionable insights to positively impact their work in empowering educators for contemporary career challenges.

As the education landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like these play a pivotal role in shaping a resilient and empowered teaching community.
