Teachers are working in increasingly diverse classrooms which makes their profession complex, diverse, and dynamic. We have developed RSA video that elaborates why supporting teachers’ development of social and emotional competencies as well as their diversity awareness (SEDA) in the initial and in-service teacher education is important in order to address this challenge.
Central idea behind the HAND:ET project is supporting teachers’ development of social and emotional competencies as well as diversity awareness (SEDA) to empower them for the complexity of everyday working life with increasingly diverse classrooms and enable them to deal flexibly with new challenges. It also puts the teachers' well-being at the centre by highlighting how developing SEDA competencies simultaneously fosters self-care for teachers, giving a central role to the voices of teachers.
We believe that the answer to the challenge of increasingly diverse classrooms and to the complexity and dynamic of teachers’ professions may be found in the continuous professional development of teachers. We advocate for supporting teachers’ development of social and emotional competencies as well as their diversity awareness (SEDA) in the initial and in-service teacher education. For that purpose, we have developed a video material aiming to raise awareness about the importance of supporting and empowering teachers’ socio-emotional competencies for diverse classrooms sending the message that nourishing teachers’ well-being will help society flourish.
The video is also available on the HAND:ET YouTube channel, make sure to check it out and by sharing it with relevant stakeholders you can also become an advocate for supporting teachers’ well-being through professional development programs that integrate social and emotional competencies and diversity awareness into the continuous professional development of teachers and other school staff.
